About Ulan
Established in 2005 Ulan Productions is a television company working exclusively in comedy with the very clear mission statement for its output, “It has to be funny.” Whether studio or location based, scripted, improvisational or factual in content our aim is to make you laugh first and ask questions later.
“Our aim is to make you laugh first and ask questions later.”
Positioned in Belfast, Ulan is ideally situated to engage with both the UK and Irish broadcasters, qualifies as a UK Nations and Regions company and has an established relationship with the local screen agencies and funding bodies.
Thoroughly international in its ambitions, open in its attitude towards other creative companies and always willing to talk to new and established talent from any genre or medium, Ulan intends to combine Irish talent with their UK and international counterparts to produce a wide range of projects with international appeal.
Company Aims
In addition to developing and producing successful comedy programmes Ulan has broader ambitions for itself and comedy in Ireland. Historically Ireland, North and South, has provided a wealth of comic talent to the world but by comparison its indigenous production sector, independent and broadcaster, has an inconsequential record of delivering comedy programmes to UK and international audiences. This is particularly true of Northern Ireland’s output.
By fostering an 'All Ireland' approach towards comedy development and establishing creative and business relationships with production companies and broadcasters beyond the island of Ireland, Ulan intends to produce high quality comedy programmes which will appeal to audiences outside these shores.
The long term aim of the company is to create a production centre for comedy projects in order to stem the creative diaspora common not only to Ireland but also the UK’s Nations and Regions. By developing and producing projects within our indigenous creative communities, and by subsequently generating work for the sector, we will develop people’s talents, improve the skills base of the media industry, create entry level training opportunities and, through a process of experience and experimentation, improve the quality and profile of the programmes we export.
