The Red Bull Flugtag – Limerick
The Red Bull Flugtag was Ulan’s first multi-camera OB but the fifth project produced by Mark Benson for the international drinks company. Recorded in front of 40,000 spectators the event brought the city of Limerick to a stand still and involved teams from Ireland, the UK and beyond.
The Flugtag is a Red Bull event held across the globe which has traditionally combined a mixture of athleticism, design ability and borderline lunacy. Teams create and build their own flying machines and after weeks, months or in some cases hours of construction, they launch the piloted contraptions at speed off the end of a pier into the water below. Generally possessing the flight capability of a solid gold bar, wrapped in lead, the machines and their pilots provide entertainment for tens of thousands of spectators who show their appreciation by laughing hysterically.
